TheArduino MKR1000 was created to simplify the task of connecting their project to a Wi-Fi network for developers. This board was designed on the Atmel ATSAMW25 SoC (System on Chip) and consists of three main blocks
- SAMD21 Cortex-M0 microcontroller + 32bit low power ARM MCU
- wireless communication WINC1500 low power 2.4GHz IEEE® 802.11 b / g / n Wi-Fi
- ECC508 CryptoAuthentication. MKR1000 Wifi module supports SHA-256 certificate.
ATSAMW25 also includes a PCB antenna.
This device can charge Li-Po batteries, which means that in addition to charging from an external power supply (5V), the board can also operate from a battery. Switching from one source to another is automatic. A powerful processor, a large selection of peripherals, and low-power Wi-Fi. All of the above makes this platform the best for creating new battery-powered IoT projects.
Note: Unlike most Arduino and Genuino boards, the MKR1000 operates on 3.3 V. The maximum voltage that the I/O pins can withstand is 3.3 V. Applying a voltage higher than 3.3 V to any I/O pin can damage the board. Since it is possible to output to 5V digital devices, proper level shifting is required for bi-directional communication with 5V devices.
