Description

TheBBC micro:bit V2.2 GO - Starter Kit is a quick start kit for programming and project completion, containing a micro:bit V2.2 computer, a USB cable for connecting to a PC and a AAA battery holder with AAA batteries. Created by the BBC in partnership with other brands, the micro:bit is a small programmable computer designed to inspire children and young people to learn about programming and electronics in a practical and fun way.

What's new in micro:bit V2.2?
The BBC micro:bit was launched in 2016 and has been a huge success around the world, completely changing the way children learn about computers digitally. All the features that everyone loves about micro:bit are still there, and some new ones have been added. It should be noted that the micro:bit V2.2 board is backwards compatible with other micro:bit boards, ecosystems, and accessories. So you don't have to worry about replacing your existing hardware.

Key features of V2.2:

  • New built-in speaker and microphone.
  • Memory capacity has been increased by 700% from 16 KB to 128 KB of RAM and from 256 KB to 512 KB of flash memory, giving the device much more capabilities.
  • The CPU has been upgraded from a 16 MHz Cortex m0 to a 64 MHz Cortex m4 floating point processor.
  • The gold-edge connectors have small recesses, which makes it much easier to prototype with crocodile-shaped clips that don't fall off.
  • The board can now supply 200 mA to accessories, compared to 90 mA in the previous version of the board.
  • Additional input capabilities are achieved with a touch sensor that accompanies the existing two buttons.
  • Version 2 now has a power LED and can be turned off instead of removing the batteries.
  • Capable of supporting both AI and machine learning.

Measuring just 4 cm x 5 cm, this single-board computer has an impressive ARM Cortex m4 processor and 512 KB of flash memory, making it a powerful little device. The Micro:bit comes in 4 colors and has various individually programmable inputs and outputs, including a 5×5 LED dot matrix display, buttons, speakers, and a microphone. The Micro:bit also has a temperature sensor, accelerometer, touch logo, and built-in sleep/off mode.

It is compatible with many free online code editors designed for different levels of expertise in different programming languages, so you can find something that works for you for learning or teaching. There are endless free projects, lesson plans, and activities to try, so there's every reason to start your micro:bit journey today.

What does the micro:bit V2.2 have to offer?

Getting started with the micro:bit
The micro:bit is very easy to use. You don't need a lot of complicated peripherals to get started - all you need is a PC or mobile device to program it. To get started you will need:

  • Micro:bit and a rechargeable battery with 2 AAA batteries
  • A computer, phone, or tablet with internet access code editors to program the micro:bit
  • If you are using a computer, a USB cable to connect the micro:bit
  • To build and create projects with the micro:bit, it's a good idea to have some additional items: headphones, crocodile clips, and conductive materials such as aluminum foil and paper clips.

Once the micro:bit is programmed, it will remain in the flash memory and you can run it as many times as you want each time. You can then reprogram it whenever you want to try a different project, you can run 1 program at a time.

The package includes:

  • 1 x micro:bit V2.2 board - available in 4 colors: red, yellow, green and blue (please note that we cannot choose the color of the micro:bit you receive)
  • 1 x user manual
  • 1x micro USB cable
  • 1x battery holder
  • 2 AAA batteries
