Description

The BBC micro:bit V2.2 is a mini computer designed to make programming fun and easy to learn. The micro:bit V2.2 is fully programmable so you can easily bring your ideas to life! From creating games to making music and even controlling robots. The Micro:bit comes with built-in hardware such as a 25-LED display, buttons, built-in speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, and temperature, motion, and light sensors.

The Micro:bit, created by the BBC in collaboration with other brands, is a small programmable computer designed to inspire children and young people to learn about programming and electronics in a practical and engaging way.

Measuring 4 cm x 5 cm, this single-board computer is equipped with an impressive ARM Cortex M4 processor and 512 KB of flash memory, making it a functional small device. The Micro:bit comes in 4 colors and features various individually programmable inputs and outputs, including a 5x5 LED dot matrix display, buttons, speakers, and a microphone. The micro:bit also features a temperature sensor, accelerometer, touch logo and built-in sleep/off mode.

The BBC's micro:bit program was launched in 2016 and has been a huge success around the world, completely changing the way children learn about digital computing. All the features that everyone loves about micro:bit are still there, although some new ones have been added. The micro:bit V2.2 board is backwards compatible with other micro:bit boards, ecosystems, and accessories. Therefore, you don't need to worry about replacing your existing hardware.

Key differences between the versions of the boards:

  • New built-in speaker and microphone.
  • Memory has increased by 700% from 16 KB to 128 KB of RAM and from 256 KB to 512 KB of flash memory, giving the device much more capabilities.
  • The CPU has been upgraded from a 16 MHz Cortex M0 to a 64 MHz Cortex M4 floating point processor.
  • The gold-edge connectors have small recesses that make prototyping much easier than using crocodile clips that will fall off all the time.
  • The board can now supply 200 mA to accessories, compared to the 90 mA of the previous version of the board.
  • Additional input capabilities are achieved with a touch sensor that complements the two buttons.
  • Version 2 now has an LED power indicator and can be turned off without removing the batteries.
  • It is capable of supporting both AI and machine learning.

It is compatible with many free online code editors designed for different levels of knowledge in different programming languages, so you can find something that suits your desire to learn or teach. There are plenty of free projects, lesson plans, and assignments to try out, so there's every reason to start your journey into the world of micro:bit today.

Board elements:

  • 25 LED matrices on the board where you can scroll through messages or display numbers
  • Accelerometer for motion or tilt detection
  • Compass.
  • Bluetooth connection to interact with the Internet or other devices
  • 2 user input buttons
  • Micro USB connection for use with a PC for programming
  • Port for rechargeable battery
  • ARM Cortex-M4 processor
  • Built-in speaker and microphone
  • 20-pin edge connector along the bottom of the board

The microbot is very easy to use. You don't need a lot of complicated peripherals to get started - all you need is a computer or mobile device to program. To get started, you will need:

  • Micro:bit and a battery pack with 2 AAA batteries
  • A computer, phone, or tablet with internet access code editors to program your micro:bit.
  • If you are using a computer, a USB cable to connect the micro:bit
  • To assemble and create projects with the micro:bit, it is helpful to have some additional items, including headphones, crocodile clips, and conductive materials such as aluminum foil and paper clips.

Once the micro:bit is programmed, this is stored in flash memory and you can run it as many times as you wish. You can then reprogram it when you want to try a different project, 1 program can be saved at a time.

Included in the package:

BBC Micro:bit - 1pc. (Please note that we cannot choose the color of the micro:bit you will receive in the box)
