Description

TheArduino Portenta H7 / ABX00042 is a high-performance microcontroller based on a dual-core STM32H747 processor, including a 480 MHz Cortex® M7 and a 240 MHz Cortex® M4, which allows you to simultaneously process high-level programming language code (such as processes created using TensorFlow™ to compute computer vision algorithms) and combine this with the execution of low-level tasks in real time (such as motor control). This microcontroller has dual functionality - it can operate as a microcontroller, and when included in a Portenta Carrier board with standard interfaces, it can also operate as a performance microcomputer.

Main areas of application:

  • High-performance industrial equipment.
  • Laboratory equipment.
  • Programmable logic controller
  • Computer vision devices.
  • Ready-to-use user interfaces.
  • Robotics controller.
  • Critical devices.
  • Dedicated desktop computer.

The two cores of the STM32H747 processor interact through a remote procedure call mechanism that allows you to seamlessly call functions on another processor. Both processor cores share all the built-in peripherals and can work with:

  • Original Mbed™ applications
  • Arduino sketches on top of the Arm® Mbed™ operating system
  • MicroPython / JavaScript via an interpreter
  • TensorFlow ™ Lite

The graphics accelerator allows you to connect an external monitor thanks to the built-in STM32H747 Chrom-ART Accelerator™ GPU, which actually creates a separate computer with a user interface from the microcontroller. In addition to the GPU, the chip includes a special JPEG encoder and decoder.

The board contains 2 high-density 80-pin connectors, which is a new standard for such boards. These connectors provide scalability potential for a wide range of applications. The board is also equipped with the following interfaces: UART, SPI, Ethernet, I2C, and a multifunctional USB-C port that can be used to power the board, act as a USB hub, connect a DisplayPort monitor, and supply power to connected OTG devices.

The built-in wireless module allows you to simultaneously manage WiFi and Bluetooth® connectivity. The WiFi interface can operate with a transmission speed of up to 65 Mbps simultaneously in the following modes:

  • as an access point
  • as a station,
  • as an AP / STA

The Bluetooth® interface supports Bluetooth Classic and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy).

The basic configuration of the Arduino Portenta H7 board (codename H7-15EUNWAD) has the following technical parameters:

  • STM32H747 dual-core processor with graphics core
  • 8MB SDRAM
  • 16MB NOR Flash
  • 10/100 Ethernet Phy
  • USB HS
  • NXP SE050C2 Crypto
  • WiFi / Bluetooth module
  • External antenna connector
  • DisplayPort via USB-C port

The basic configuration can be expanded to:
