Arduino Due / A000062

Description

Arduino Due / A000062 is a controller board based on the new Atmel SAM3X8E ARM Cortex-M3 processor. This is the first Arduino board to use a 32-bit ARM microcontroller, and the total number of digital outputs is 54 (12 of which provide PWM output). Thanks to the use of the ARM core, higher performance and functionality are achieved. The capabilities of the Arduino due with 32-bit controllers are significantly higher than those of boards based on 8-bit controllers. In particular, you can process 4-byte data in just one pass. The high frequency of 84 MHz, sufficient SRAM memory of 96 kilobytes and flash program memory of 512 kilobytes, and the presence of a DMA controller allow you to use the platform's capabilities more efficiently, unloading the central processor and freeing up additional resources. Due is compatible with most expansion cards designed for Uno, Diecimila or Duemilanove.

The main features also include:

  • 12 inputs for analog devices,
  • 4 UART connectors for transceiver devices,
  • 84 megahertz frequency mini-generator,
  • USB port that supports the OTG format,
  • 2 blocks for working with analog and digital signals,
  • 2 TWI standard connectors,
  • Power supply port,
  • SPI and JTAG connectors,
  • Reset button to reset and reboot the memory.

The Arduino Due has a number of means for communicating with a computer, another Arduino or other microcontrollers, as well as various devices such as phones, tablets, cameras, and so on. The SAM3X provides one hardware UART and three hardware USARTs for TTL (3.3V) serial communication.

Caution.

If you are starting to learn arduino due r3 for the first time, as well as creating your first Arduino due examples projects, pay attention to the voltage limitations. The standard voltage for Arduino boards is 5 volts, and Due operates at a voltage of no more than 3.3 volts. This value is the limit for the inputs/outputs, and if you accidentally try to supply 5V, it can lead to problems with the board.

The Arduino Due is powered via the USB connector or from an external power source. The power supply is selected automatically. External (not USB) power can come either from an AC-to-DC power adapter or from a battery. The adapter can be connected by inserting the 2.1 mm center-positive plug into the power connector on the board. The battery leads can be inserted into the Gnd and Vin pins of the POWER connector. The board can operate from an external power supply from 6 to 20 volts. However, if the voltage is less than 7 V, less than 5 V may be supplied to the 5 V connector and the board may operate unstably. If the voltage level exceeds 12 V, the voltage regulator may overheat and damage the board. The recommended range is 7 to 12 volts.

To get started with the Arduino due, you will need a minimum of time even if you are just getting acquainted with the basics and have minimal experience and skills. Programming Arduino due is quite simple and intuitive - 2-3 lessons will be enough for you to gain basic knowledge of this open source platform.

To get started with the Arduino due device, which our online store of quality microelectronics offers inexpensively, you need to connect the power supply. To do this, you can use a special AC / DC adapter or simply connect the arduino due board and your laptop with a USB cable.

Purpose of the board connectors:

Programming

The Due can be programmed using the Arduino Arduino IDE (IDE) software. Loading programs into the SAM3X differs from loading AVR microcontrollers on other Arduino boards because the flash memory must be erased before reprogramming. Booting into the chip is controlled by the SAM3X ROM, which will only work when the chip's flash memory is empty. You can use any of the USB ports to program the board, although it is recommended to use the programming port because of the way the chip erase is handled.

USB overcurrent protection

The Arduino Due has a resettable fuse that protects your computer's USB ports from short circuits and overcurrent. While most computers have their own internal protection, the fuse provides an extra layer of protection. If more than 500 mA of current is applied to a USB port, the fuse automatically breaks the connection until the short circuit or overload is removed.
